Whale Rider
This is, I guess, like an imagined front cover for the book Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera. It's a wonderful book and story. The film version, which is probably better known internationally, is beautiful (; the scene when Paikea is reading the speech for her absent grandfather puts a lump in my throat every time). If you haven't read the book or seen the film, then I'd gently urge you to.
Have an awesome weekend where ever you are!
Also.... next weekend (saturday 4th Feb) I'm back at the local Vintage and Craft Market, with a big Midwinter Sale! So if you live locally pop by, say hello and maybe pick up a bargain.

That is a splendid imagined cover for 'Whale Rider'. I'm sure that Witi would love it. He was my very first tutor way back in 1993 for a NZ Literature paper I took at Auckland University. He was very kind and gave wonderful advice. I still have the essays he annotated.
ReplyDeleteYou should send your design to the current publisher of the book - you never know, they might be wanting a fresh look for it. I'd buy it with that cover, and I already own a copy!
Bronwyn, that's so lovely to hear, what a wonderful story.
DeleteThank you for sharing your memories and thanks again for the suggestion, I may just do that! And, well, if they take me up on that offer then I'll send you a copy! :)
